🌿 Hoya australis Wax Plant • Glossy, Fast-Growing & Pet-Friendly Hoya
Wax Plant • Glossy, Fast-Growing & Pet-Friendly Hoya
Add lush tropical greenery to your home with the beautiful Hoya australis. 🌿✨
Loved for its large, thick, glossy green leaves and vigorous vining growth, Hoya australis is one of the most rewarding Hoyas to grow. Its foliage has a smooth, almost waxy finish, giving the plant a fresh, polished appearance year-round.
As it matures, Hoya australis develops long vines that can be allowed to trail or trained around a trellis or hoop. Given bright light and time to mature, it can also reward you with clusters of beautiful white, star-shaped flowers with reddish centres, often carrying a sweet fragrance.
Fast-growing, relatively forgiving, and beautiful even when not in bloom, Hoya australis is an excellent choice for both new Hoya growers and established collectors.

☀️ Care Guide
Light:
Bright indirect light
➡️ Plenty of bright light encourages stronger growth and flowering
➡️ Gentle morning or late-day sun can be beneficial
➡️ Avoid sudden exposure to intense midday sun
Water:
Allow the soil to dry significantly between waterings
➡️ Thick leaves store moisture, making it more tolerant of occasional missed waterings
➡️ Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain
➡️ Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet
Soil:
Prefers a chunky, airy, fast-draining mix
➡️ Orchid bark, perlite, and a quality potting mix work well
➡️ Good drainage and airflow around the roots are especially important
Humidity:
Average to moderate household humidity
➡️ Appreciates increased humidity but adapts well to normal indoor conditions
➡️ Good airflow encourages healthy growth
Temperature:
18–29°C
➡️ Prefers warm, stable temperatures
➡️ Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below approximately 15°C
Difficulty:
🌱 Beginner Friendly
🌸 Blooming Tip
For the best chance of flowers, give your Hoya plenty of bright indirect light and avoid repeatedly moving it once it is happy.
When it does flower, do not cut off the flower spur (peduncle) after the blooms fade — Hoyas can flower again from the same spur.
